The number of deaths in the US due to abuse/overdose of Prescription drugs far exceeds deaths due to Illegal drugs such as Cocaine and Heroin. (Figure 1)
2013 saw a large increase in deaths due to Heroin. Cocaine deaths peaked in 2006 (Figure 2)
In many States, # of prescriptions written for Pain Opioid exceed the total population (Figure 3)
